The patent holder of an Israeli startup company that has already closed down has accused NIO, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, of infringing on its intellectual property and is seeking $250 million in damages. This Israeli company was seen as a pioneer in the development of electric vehicle infrastructure. NIO denies infringing on Charge Peak's intellectual property, stating that the technology used in its battery swapping stations is substantially different from the three patents mentioned in the lawsuit. NIO also claims to have applied for over 2,200 patents related to battery charging and swapping. NIO stated, "These accusations are unfounded both in fact and law, and do not reflect the reality of industry technological development and NIO's actual research and development practices." The company added that it will take "appropriate legal measures" to protect its "legitimate rights and interests".
