According to the statistics released by the Central Electoral Commission, the political alliance "Progressive Bulgaria" led by former President Rumen Radev obtained 44.659% of the votes, significantly ahead of other political parties and alliances. Four other parties and alliances received over 4% of the votes, qualifying them to enter the parliament. Bulgaria held national parliamentary elections on the 19th, with nearly 6.6 million voters selecting 240 members of the National Assembly from 4783 candidates. On December 11th last year, Prime Minister Borissov's government announced its resignation. Prior to this, the economic policies implemented by Borissov's government had been criticized by the public and sparked weeks of protests. After three failed attempts to form a coalition government, Bulgaria announced on January 16th that parliamentary elections would be held early. Bulgaria has a unicameral parliament system, with elections held every 4 years. Political parties or alliances receiving over 4% of the votes can enter the parliament, and a party with more than half of the parliamentary seats can form a government independently.
