The U.S. Energy Secretary expects that Russia's oil sanctions exemption will not be reissued.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the Trump administration is unlikely to issue new waivers allowing countries to purchase sanctioned Russian oil. "That is a broad waiver," Wright said on Wednesday. "I don't think it will be extended." After the Iran War disrupted supply from the Persian Gulf and pushed up oil prices, the US Treasury issued a waiver in March allowing the sale of Russian crude oil stranded on ships at sea. This waiver expires on April 11th.
