SoftBank has reportedly established a new company to develop indigenous AI in Japan. Eight companies, including NEC and Honda, will participate and the Japanese government is also considering providing support. By collaborating with the government and private companies, they aim to develop the foundational model for "physical AI." In addition to NEC and Honda, Sony Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Bank, Mizuho Bank, Nippon Steel, and Kobe Steel have all invested in SoftBank's newly established Japanese AI foundational model development company in Shibuya, Tokyo. Preferred Networks, which is engaged in AI development business in Chiyoda, Tokyo, will also cooperate in building the model.
