Japan invests $16 billion to push startup Rapidus into the field of artificial intelligence chips.

Japan approved an additional subsidy of 631.5 billion yen to Rapidus company to accelerate its entry into the artificial intelligence chip manufacturing field. By the end of March 2027 fiscal year, the total financial support from the Japanese government to Rapidus will reach 2.6 trillion yen. Rapidus aims to achieve mass production of advanced semiconductors before 2027 and, with the support of government loan guarantees, raise around 3 trillion yen in private financing.
