Bankruptcy companies in Japan increased by 3.6% in the fiscal year 2025, surpassing 10,000 for two consecutive years.

The Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on April 8 that the number of bankruptcies in Japanese companies in the 2025 fiscal year was 10,505, an increase of 3.6% from the previous year, exceeding 10,000 for the second consecutive year. Among the bankrupt companies, nearly 90% of them had less than 10 employees. The total amount of liabilities in the 2025 fiscal year decreased by 33.9% to 1.5687 trillion yen.
