The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan will discharge 55,000 tons of radioactive contaminated water in the fiscal year 2025.
Tokyo Electric Power Company announced in a press release on the 24th that the discharge of nuclear contaminated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant for the 2025 fiscal year had ended, with a total of approximately 55,000 tons discharged. The press release stated that all 7 discharges of nuclear contaminated water for the 2025 fiscal year had been completed, totaling 55,011 tons, with a total tritium radioactivity of approximately 16 trillion becquerels. The company plans to discharge nuclear contaminated water 8 times for the 2026 fiscal year, totaling approximately 62,400 tons. Despite strong international criticism and opposition, Japan unilaterally began discharging nuclear contaminated water into the sea from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in August 2023. As of now, a total of 18 discharges of nuclear contaminated water have been completed, totaling approximately 141,000 tons.
