British media: 175 British Navy nuclear submarine sailors were found to be taking drugs within 7 years, British military responds
According to a report in the UK's Daily Telegraph on the 21st, the latest data from the UK Ministry of Defence shows that 175 sailors serving in the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine force were found to be using drugs from 2018 to 2024. The report states that the drug test results for these sailors were positive, testing positive for a variety of banned or illegal substances, including cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, and steroids. In addition, other banned narcotics were also found in random spot checks. The report said that in 52 related cases, the sailors involved were caught while serving on submarines, with 12 cases occurring in 2024. Almost all those caught have been dismissed, and the UK Ministry of Defence stated that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse. At the same time, sources added that a few individuals may be exempt from punishment or have their punishment reduced to some extent because they unknowingly took substances that were banned drugs.
