German flagship navy modernization project faces serious delays
Germany's flagship navy modernization project - the construction of six F126 frigates worth approximately 10 billion euros - is facing serious delays. Defense giant ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems is actively seeking to take over the project and become the main contractor. The project was initially led by Dutch shipbuilding company Damen Naval and involved collaboration with German shipyards. However, the project is currently about four years behind schedule. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems has proposed taking over the project in hopes of becoming the main contractor to accelerate production and stabilize the project. The company expects to make a contract decision as early as the summer of 2026 and hopes to deliver the first frigate by the second half of 2031.
