When the price of hydrogen drops to 15 yuan, hydrogen-powered vehicles will be able to compete with electric vehicles.
In the coming years, the cost of hydrogen refueling for hydrogen-powered vehicles will be basically equivalent to the cost of charging electric vehicles. On March 16, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly released a notice on carrying out pilot projects for the comprehensive application of hydrogen energy, proposing that by 2030, hydrogen energy will be widely used in various fields in urban clusters, with the average price of hydrogen at the terminal dropping to below 25 yuan per kilogram, and striving to reduce it to around 15 yuan per kilogram in some advantageous regions. Currently, a major challenge in the development of the hydrogen energy industry is the high price of hydrogen. Several hydrogen industry professionals, including Li Cancheng, who once served as the manager of a hydrogen refueling station in Guangdong, told reporters that if the target of 15 yuan per kilogram is achieved, the cost of hydrogen refueling for hydrogen-powered vehicles will be basically equivalent to the cost of charging electric vehicles, potentially breaking through the price bottleneck for the large-scale application of hydrogen energy and injecting momentum into the industry's development.
