UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak announced on Monday that the government will allocate 1 billion to purchase high-performance quantum computers to support the development of the quantum industry and boost the broader economy. The Treasury said that this new procurement plan is part of the UK's 2 billion plan to enhance quantum capabilities, which includes a previously announced 1 billion expenditure. Quantum computers are able to simultaneously process multiple possible solutions, accelerating innovation in fields such as medical diagnosis, greenhouse gas monitoring, and secure communication. Sunak is scheduled to deliver a speech in Londons financial district on Tuesday, announcing that the 500 million "Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Fund" announced last year will launch in April to support UK artificial intelligence companies.
