Wang Yi discusses the situation in Iran: ceasefire to end the war and bring peace to the Middle East and the world.
Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated China's position on the Iran situation at a press conference during the two sessions.
Wang Yi said that the Iran situation is the focus of the current international situation. China upholds an objective and just attitude, has clarified its principles multiple times, summarized as a simple phrase: ceasefire and stop the war. As the ancient Chinese saying goes: "The use of force is a last resort that should be carefully considered." Facing the war engulfing the Middle East, a war that should not have happened and is not beneficial to any party involved, history in the Middle East repeatedly tells the world that the use of force is not a solution to problems, and military confrontation only adds new hatred and brews new crises. China is willing to once again call for an immediate cessation of military actions, to prevent the situation from escalating further and to prevent the spread of the flames of war.
Wang Yi pointed out that correctly and properly handling issues related to Iran and the Middle East should adhere to several basic principles:
First, respect national sovereignty. Sovereignty is the cornerstone of the current international order. We advocate that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iran and the countries in the Gulf region should be respected and not violated.
Second, no abuse of force. Being strong does not mean being in the right, and the world cannot regress to the law of the jungle. Easily resorting to the use of force does not prove one's strength, and the people cannot become innocent sacrifices of war.
Third, adhere to non-interference in internal affairs. The people of the Middle East are the true masters of the region, and Middle Eastern affairs should be decided autonomously by the countries in the region. Planning color revolutions and orchestrating regime changes do not win hearts.
Fourth, resolve hot-spot issues through political means. China has always advocated prioritizing peace, and all parties should return to the negotiating table as soon as possible, resolve differences through equal dialogue, and make efforts to achieve common security.
Fifth, major powers should play a constructive role and use their power in a benevolent manner. China also has an ancient saying, "Without benevolence, there are differences in attacking and defending." Major powers should uphold justice and the right path, and contribute positive energy to the peaceful development of the Middle East.
Wang Yi emphasized that as a sincere friend and strategic partner of Middle Eastern countries, China is willing to practice the global security initiative with Middle Eastern countries, restore order to the Middle East, provide peace and security for the people, and contribute to peace in the world.
