Due to the Middle East conflict causing flights to be grounded, suppliers are unable to transport gold out of Dubai, an important trading center. As a result, some individuals are selling gold at greatly discounted prices. Many buyers have paused their orders, unwilling to pay unusually high shipping and insurance costs, and unable to guarantee timely delivery. Therefore, according to insiders, in order to avoid indefinitely paying storage and financing fees, traders are offering to sell at prices with discounts of up to $30 per ounce higher than the global benchmark price in London. They stated that, although some gold bars have started to be loaded onto flights departing from Dubai mid-week, there are still many goods stuck on Friday.
