According to the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, Cyprus issued an air safety alert on the morning of the 4th due to suspicious flying objects moving towards Cyprus. Greek fighter jets took off from military bases within Cyprus to respond to the situation. The alert was triggered around 9:30 am local time on the 4th. For safety reasons, staff at the US Embassy in Cyprus were moved to underground areas. Two Greek F-16 fighter jets took off from the Andreas Papandreou air base in Paphos, western Cyprus, to intercept the relevant flying objects before they entered Cypriot airspace.
