Anthropic expresses its inability to accept the requirements of the U.S. Department of Defense and hopes that the latter will reconsider the terms.
On February 26th local time, Anthropic stated that they could not accept the demands of the US Department of Defense, stating that the threats from the latter "will not change our position." Anthropic requested to provide services to the military after establishing a security mechanism, and hoped that the US Department of Defense would reconsider. Earlier, a spokesperson for the Pentagon stated that the Pentagon requested Anthropic to allow the government to use their artificial intelligence technology "for all legitimate purposes," calling this request "simple" and "reasonable," and the Pentagon "will not let any company dictate terms on how we make combat decisions." Emil Michael, the chief technology officer of the Pentagon, revealed that the US military has made "several substantive concessions" to reach an agreement with Anthropic, and also offered them the opportunity to participate in their artificial intelligence ethics committee.
