On February 23rd, WeChat released a report on the 2026 Spring Festival data. The report shows that during the Spring Festival period, the number of offline transactions for travel, lifestyle, and entertainment increased by over 20% year-on-year. The popularity of travel destinations with "Ma" in their name, such as Malaysia and the Maldives, surged, with offline transaction consumption amounts increasing by 131% and 186% respectively. In addition, Macau and Hong Kong saw a 39% and 24% increase in transaction numbers compared to the previous year, with Thailand, South Korea, and Malaysia ranking in the top 5 for overseas offline transaction numbers. Meanwhile, a large-scale return to hometowns has effectively activated domestic demand in lower-tier cities. The report shows that the top 5 cities with the fastest growth in payment transactions in lower-tier markets are Tongliao, Cangzhou, Anshan, Chifeng, and Zhoukou. In terms of tourist destinations, the transaction numbers at scenic spots in Nanchong and Kaifeng increased by over 50%, while Suzhou, Huangshan, Xi'an, and Putian saw transaction numbers increase by over 30%. Searches on WeChat for "Zhanjiang," "Huangshan," "Hong Kong," "Hainan," and "Shantou" had the highest year-on-year increase in search volume in the top five.
