According to the China Central Depository & Clearing Co., Ltd., China issued a total of 1,077.88 billion yuan worth of various types of green bonds in 2025, with a year-end custodial amount of 2,415.48 billion yuan. The overall structure of the green bond market remained stable, with the size of green financial bonds increasing by 129.1% year-on-year, and green corporate credit bonds increasing by 15.9% year-on-year. The total trading volume of China's green bond secondary market in 2025 reached nearly 1.2 trillion yuan, an increase of 78.8% year-on-year, with an average turnover rate of 57.1% for the year, and market activity remaining relatively stable compared to 2024. In 2025, China's green bond index operated steadily, with the index value increasing by 1.7% for the year and the maximum drawdown at 0.4%, lower than the comparable comprehensive bond index by 1.3 percentage points. The number of green bond index sample bonds and market value continued to grow in 2025, with the number of sample bonds reaching 615 by the end of 2025, an increase of 17.6% year-on-year. As of the end of 2025, the green bond index sample bonds covered 255 issuers, with the financial industry accounting for the highest proportion at 43.9%, followed by the industrial and utilities sectors.
