NASA stated that the "Starliner" spacecraft lost maneuverability when approaching the International Space Station with astronauts on board, causing related economic losses, thus classifying this test flight as a Class A accident. According to NASA's accident classification, Class A accidents include incidents that result in human death or permanent total disability, mission failure causing direct property losses of $2 million or more, destruction of a manned spacecraft, unexpected loss of control of the spacecraft, and other situations.
