Trump revokes regulations incentivizing the production of electric vehicles in order to meet fuel economy requirements.
The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that it will revoke a regulation that exaggerates energy efficiency and encourages automakers to produce electric vehicles to meet fuel economy requirements. Environmentalists have long criticized the Department of Energy's related regulations, arguing that the regulation gives electric vehicles excessively high and unrealistic fuel economy values, which are then included in the calculation of the overall fleet fuel consumption under the federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) Act. The Department of Energy stated that after a ruling by the appellate court in September, it will remove the clause known as the fuel content factor from its calculation method and plans to propose more revisions.
