International Energy Agency: Energy Innovation Enters a New Focus on Security Stage
The "Energy Innovation Status" report released by the International Energy Agency on the 17th pointed out that energy innovation has entered a new stage focusing on security, and energy storage technology has jumped to the forefront of global innovation activities. The report stated that energy technology has formed a global market worth trillions of dollars, and has become an innovative engine in the fields of batteries, transformers, turbines, motors, heat exchangers, etc. Approximately one-tenth of global patents are related to energy, surpassing the chemical, pharmaceutical, or transportation sectors, highlighting its core position in national security, industrial strategy, and economic performance. The report also stated that a survey of experts and practitioners in the energy sector showed that energy security has become the main driving force for energy innovation in 2025, and countries are increasingly focusing on strengthening domestic technological capabilities and ensuring the security of critical supply chains. According to the report, energy storage has become a frontier area of global innovation activities. The proportion of battery-related patents in all energy patents will further increase on the basis of 40% in 2023.
