Economists: Economic growth expected to accelerate in the first quarter of 2026 in Switzerland.
Economist Ankita Amajuri from Pantheon Macroeconomics stated in a report that the Swiss economy is expected to rebound in the first quarter of 2026. In the fourth quarter of last year, GDP grew by 0.2%, bouncing back from a 0.5% contraction in the third quarter. Amajuri said, "Looking ahead, surveys suggest that economic growth will pick up in the first quarter as Swiss companies now have a clearer understanding of the tariffs applied to their exports to the United States," and she expects growth to be at 0.5%. For most of the third quarter, around 40% of Swiss exports to the US were subject to a 39% tariff. She mentioned that the growth in the fourth quarter reflects a weak expansion in the services sector, stagnant industrial output in Switzerland, and the possibility of net trade dragging on growth.
