The EU is considering speeding up the confirmation of Ragad's successor to avoid the uncertainties of far-right wing coming to power in France.
European governments may choose to accelerate the selection of a successor to European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde in order to avoid having to deal with a far-right French president after the 2027 French election. Lagarde's term will continue until October next year, and her successor is typically chosen in the summer of that year. However, the risk of Marine Le Pen or her "heir" Jordan Bardella winning the French election starting in April 2027 may prompt European leaders to adjust the timetable.
