In January of this year, a total of 22.146 million cases of online illegal and harmful information were reported nationwide.
The latest data released by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) reporting center shows that in January 2026, the CAC guided national and local cyber reporting work departments, as well as major website platforms, to receive 22.146 million reports from netizens reporting illegal and harmful information such as pornography, gambling, infringement, and rumors. This represents an increase of 13.8% compared to the previous month and 30.9% compared to the same period last year. Among them, the CAC reporting center received 418,000 reports, local cyber reporting work departments received 676,000 reports, and major website platforms nationwide received 21.052 million reports. The CAC reporting center stated that major website platforms nationwide continue to maintain smooth channels for reporting and handle reports from netizens. It welcomes active participation from netizens in comprehensive network governance to jointly uphold a clean cyber space.
