The list of the first batch of urban renewal plan projects for Beijing in 2026 has been announced.
To fully leverage the important role of urban renewal in the high-quality development of the capital city, and to help achieve a "good start" in the first quarter, Beijing recently released the list of the first batch of urban renewal plan projects for 2026. The first batch of projects totals 1321, including 745 new projects, 576 projects to be continued from 2025, and a planned investment of 104.95 billion yuan for the first batch of projects in 2026. The first batch of urban renewal plan projects covers eight major types, including the renovation and reuse of existing buildings, the renovation of old residential areas, the construction of complete communities, the renewal of old street business districts and industrial zones, the renewal of urban infrastructure, the improvement of urban functions and livelihood security, the restoration of urban ecological systems, and the protection and inheritance of historical and cultural heritage. Key projects focus on the inheritance of historical context and the comprehensive enhancement of areas, including the application for sublease in the vicinity of the Forbidden City, the comprehensive urban renewal of the third phase of the Jingshan area, the protection of the historical features of the White Pagoda Temple historical conservation area in Xicheng District, and the improvement of the central axis landscape - the comprehensive environmental improvement of the Dong area of Meishi Street, emphasizing the activation of existing space value, and making urban renewal both retain historical charm and meet the needs of residents.
