The latest data released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs shows that there were 6.763 million marriage registrations and 2.743 million divorce registrations nationwide in 2025. Compared with 2024, the number of marriage registrations increased by 657,000, an increase of 10.76%. In recent years, China has vigorously promoted age-appropriate marriage and childbearing, and has built and improved a comprehensive social support system for marriage and childbearing. The convenience of marriage registration has been greatly improved. Starting from May 10, 2025, the newly revised "Marriage Registration Regulations" have been implemented, the geographical restrictions on marriage registration have been lifted, and new couples no longer need household registration books to obtain marriage certificates. Marriage registration can now be done nationwide. After the implementation of the policy, the number of "inter-provincial marriage registrations" nationwide has significantly increased, with a larger increase in some cities with a high concentration of migrant populations. At present, Shanghai, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Sichuan, and Hubei have already announced their marriage registration data for 2025. Some regions with a high influx of migrant populations have seen a large increase in marriage registrations.
