According to the report of Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao on February 8, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, Edward Yau, once again expressed strong dissatisfaction with Panama's decision on the operation rights of Cheung Kong Infrastructure's port in Hong Kong. He criticized Panama's actions as they would have serious repercussions on its business environment and economic development. Yau reiterated the HKSAR Government's position and pointed out that the Panama Ports Company has made significant investments and created numerous job opportunities in the region over the years. He further criticized Panama for damaging its national credibility, which would have profound effects on the country's business environment and economic development, as well as seriously undermining international trade rules. Yau urged the Panamanian government to respect the spirit of contracts and provide a fair and just business environment for local businesses operating lawfully, ensuring that their legitimate rights and interests are not interfered with.
