On February 5th local time, the United Nations welcomed the progress made in the peace talks between the government of the Congo and the anti-government armed group "M23 Movement" in the capital of Qatar, Doha. The two parties signed a document on February 2nd, clearly defining the scope of authority for ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanisms. This is a positive signal for easing tensions in eastern Congo. These talks are a follow-up to the Doha Peace Framework Agreement.
