The Bulgarian currency lev is completely withdrawn from circulation.
Starting from February 1st local time, the Bulgarian original currency lev will completely cease circulation. According to the Bulgarian National Bank, approximately 75% of the lev banknotes and coins previously in circulation have been collected. As of January 30th, the Bulgarian National Bank has injected a total of 6.1 billion euros into the market. Bulgaria joined the eurozone on January 1st this year, and since that day, all cash payments and bank transactions in the country have switched to euros. However, during a one-month transition period, the Bulgarian original currency lev could still be used alongside euros. After the lev ceases circulation, holders can still exchange them for euros indefinitely at various banks in Bulgaria.
