Canada plans to establish a joint defense bank with multiple countries.
Canadian Finance Minister Sean Fei said on January 30 that Canada will work closely with international partners in the coming months to advance the establishment of a national defense bank in order to raise funds for collective security. Fei announced on social media platform X that over 10 countries discussed the establishment of the "Defense, Security, and Revival Bank" on that day under Canada's leadership. He did not mention which countries participated in the discussion. Fei also mentioned that in the coming months, Isabelle Hudon, CEO of the Business Development Bank of Canada, will work closely with international partners on behalf of Canada to advance the establishment of the bank. According to Reuters, supporters hope that the proposed national defense bank will become a global national support institution with a 3A credit rating, raising $135 billion for defense projects in Europe and NATO member countries.
