Japanese media attention: Japanese cities not in the top ten destinations for Chinese tourists during the Spring Festival vacation.
According to the Nikkei newspaper, on January 30th, the Chinese government predicted that during the 40-day Spring Festival travel period before and after the Spring Festival holiday, the total number of people traveling home and for tourism will reach 9.5 billion, setting a new historical record. According to statistics from the travel booking platform Tongcheng Travel, Seoul ranked first among popular outbound destinations during the Spring Festival holiday, followed closely by Bangkok and Singapore. Japan used to be one of the popular outbound destinations for Chinese tourists, but this time no Japanese cities made it into the top ten. Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's remarks on Taiwan have led to a cooling of relations between Japan and China. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has repeatedly issued warnings and advised Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan in the near future. Several Chinese airlines have announced free ticket changes or cancellations for flights to Japan, and the number of canceled flights has also increased.
