Today, at the press conference held by the State Council Information Office, officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Transport, and other relevant departments stated that they will take multiple measures to strengthen transportation capacity to meet the travel needs of the public during the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush. It is estimated that during this year's Spring Festival travel rush, the total number of people moving across different regions will reach 9.5 billion, which is expected to set a new record. Vice Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, Li Chunlin, mentioned that self-driving trips will continue to be the main mode of transportation, accounting for about 80% of the total. It is projected that the number of railway passengers and civil aviation passengers will reach 540 million and 95 million respectively, with the overall scale and peak daily values expected to exceed historical highs. Various measures will be taken to strengthen transportation capacity to meet the travel needs of the public. The railway will implement a new train schedule, with a total of 3109 kilometers of railway lines and more than 50 passenger stations entering the Spring Festival travel rush for the first time. It is estimated that on the peak passenger flow day, over 14,000 passenger trains can be operated, with a 5.3% increase in seating capacity compared to the previous year. Civil aviation will focus on increasing flights to hub airports and popular tourist destinations, with an average of 19,400 flights per day, a 5% increase compared to the previous year. The road transportation sector will increase capacity for popular tourist destinations and rural passenger transport. Water transportation will strengthen capacity assurance on key routes such as the Qiongzhou Strait between Hainan Province and Guangdong Province. National highways will waive tolls for small passenger cars with 7 seats or fewer, and relevant departments will improve service area capabilities, especially in terms of charging facilities.
