NVIDIA has released its new Earth-2 weather forecasting model.

Before the winter storm that swept through most parts of the United States arrived, there were significant differences in weather forecasts in some areas, with fluctuations in predicted snowfall and clear disagreements. NVIDIA's timing in releasing its new Earth-2 weather forecast model couldn't have been better. These new AI models are designed to make weather forecasting faster and more accurate. NVIDIA stated that one of the models, Earth-2 Medium Range, outperformed Google's DeepMind AI weather model GenCast in over 70 variables. GenCast, released by Google in December 2024, had already significantly higher prediction accuracy than traditional weather models that could only generate forecasts for up to 15 days. NVIDIA officially launched these new tools at the American Meteorological Society annual meeting held in Houston, USA, on Monday.
