In 2025, the total electricity consumption of the whole society increased by 5.0% compared to the previous year.
On January 17th, the National Energy Administration released data on the total electricity consumption for the year 2025. In 2025, the total electricity consumption for the entire society reached 10.3682 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 5.0% compared to the previous year.
When looking at electricity consumption by industry, the electricity consumption for the primary industry was 149.4 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 9.9%; for the secondary industry was 66.366 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 3.7%; for the tertiary industry was 19.942 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 8.2%; and for urban and rural residents' electricity consumption was 15.88 trillion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 6.3%. The contribution of the tertiary industry and urban and rural residents' electricity consumption to the total electricity consumption growth reached 50%.
The rapid growth in electricity consumption for the electric vehicle charging service industry and information transmission, software, and information technology service industry, at 48.8% and 17.0% respectively, were important reasons driving the growth in electricity consumption for the tertiary industry.
