British media: Indian central bank proposes interconnected digital currencies for BRICS countries.
Reuters reported on the 19th that two sources said the Reserve Bank of India proposed linking official digital currencies of the BRICS countries to facilitate cross-border trade and tourism payments. With increasing geopolitical tensions, this move may help reduce dependence on the US dollar. According to the report, the Reserve Bank of India has proposed to the government to include a proposal to connect the digital currencies of central banks of various countries in the agenda of the 2026 BRICS summit. This summit, to be hosted by India later this year, will be the first formal proposal to promote interconnection of digital currencies among BRICS member countries. However, this move may provoke dissatisfaction from the United States. The US opposes any attempt to bypass the US dollar and has previously issued warnings about it. US President Trump has publicly stated that the BRICS countries are an "anti-American" alliance and has threatened to impose tariffs on its member countries.
