According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the total population of the country at the end of 2025 is 1,404.89 million, a decrease of 3.39 million from the previous year. The number of births in the year is 7.92 million, with a birth rate of 5.63; the number of deaths is 11.31 million, with a death rate of 8.04; and the natural population growth rate is -2.41. In terms of gender composition, the male population is 716.85 million, the female population is 688.04 million, and the overall gender ratio is 104.19. In terms of age composition, the population aged 16-59 is 851.36 million, accounting for 60.6% of the total population; the population aged 60 and above is 32.38 million, accounting for 23.0% of the total population, with 22.37 million aged 65 and above, accounting for 15.9% of the total population. In terms of urban and rural composition, the urban population is 95.38 million, an increase of 10.3 million from the previous year; the rural population is 45.109 million, a decrease of 13.69 million; the urban population accounts for 67.89% of the total population, an increase of 0.89 percentage points from the previous year. In terms of education level, the average number of years of education for the population aged 16-59 has reached 11.3 years, an increase of 0.1 years from the previous year.
