The Federal Communications Commission of the United States announced on Friday local time that it has approved the application of SpaceX to deploy an additional 7,500 second-generation "Starlink" satellites, helping the company further expand its global internet services business. The Federal Communications Commission of the United States stated that Elon Musk's SpaceX has been granted permission to operate an additional 7,500 second-generation "Starlink" satellites, bringing its total number of satellites in orbit globally to 15,000. The Commission also approved SpaceX to upgrade the satellites' technology and use five frequency bands for operations. In addition, the Commission waived previous restrictions on satellite signal coverage overlap and limitations on network capacity expansion. The agency pointed out that the new satellites will provide direct satellite-to-cellular network services outside of the United States, and strengthen network coverage capabilities in the United States, supporting next-generation mobile communication services and achieving internet speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.
