Japanese rice and eggs prices are constantly rising, making it more expensive to have a simple meal of fried eggs with rice.

On December 27th local time, the latest data shows that the prices of rice and eggs in Japan have both reached their highest levels on record. Many Japanese people lament that egg rice has become a "luxury item", and faced with the rising prices of many ingredients, they have to look for more affordable substitutes. According to statistics released by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, as of the week ending December 21st, the average price of a 5 kg bag of rice in the market was 4,337 yen, remaining above 4,000 yen for 16 consecutive weeks. Influenced by factors such as rising feed prices and the spread of avian flu, the price of eggs in Japan has also risen. Data released by the large sales company "JA Zen-Noh Eggs" shows that the average wholesale price of medium-sized eggs in the Tokyo area this year is 324 yen per kilogram, reaching the highest level on record.
