Multiple new subway lines will be opened at the end of the year in various cities, and both the Beijing and Shanghai urban rail networks will exceed 900 kilometers.

With the arrival of the end of 2025 and the conclusion of the "14th Five-Year Plan", new subway lines have been opened in many cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Jinan. According to statistics, nearly 20 subway lines will be put into operation in December 2025 nationwide. On December 24, 2025, the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission announced that by the end of 2025, Beijing will open three new subway lines: the middle section of Line 17, Line 18, and the south extension of Line 6. At that time, the total operating mileage of urban rail transit in Beijing is expected to increase by 30 kilometers to 909 kilometers, with a total of 30 operating lines. Shanghai also announced that the second phase of the Shanghai Metro Line 18 project will begin initial operation on December 27. With this, the total number of operating subway lines in Shanghai will reach 21, with a total operating mileage of 906 kilometers.
