China Railway Kunming Bureau responds to "Noise from some freight trains on the Shanghai-Kunming line disturbing residents": Current technology is difficult to completely eliminate at this stage.

In response to online feedback regarding the noise caused by several old freight cars on the Guikun section of the Shanghai-Kunming Railway, China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd. recently stated that trains are now prohibited from sounding their horns in urban areas except in special circumstances, and the Shanghai-Kunming line has completed seamless steel track renovation. The noise issue caused by the friction between the wheels of freight trains and the steel rails cannot be completely eliminated at the current technological level. In the next step, the railway department will actively engage in technological research and development. Once the conditions are met, engineering measures will be taken to reduce railway noise and effectively improve the living environment along the railway line.
