Jiang Wei, of the China Iron and Steel Association, said that during the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, the key to the steel industry is to promote the elimination of outdated production capacity.

On December 20th, at the 2026 Steel Market Outlook and "My Steel" Annual Conference, Jiang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association, stated that relying solely on industry self-discipline cannot solve the fundamental problem. During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, the key to the steel industry is to promote the exit of backward production capacity. He emphasized that without relevant policies, the industry situation is bound to be worse than the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan", and blind optimism should be avoided. The industry will experience fluctuations at a low level during the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period.
