CATL's Su Yiyi: Pure electric ships are expected to set sail for the high seas within three years.
On December 4th, during the 2025 China International Maritime Exhibition, CATL's marine business and integrated solution "ship-shore-cloud" media communication meeting was held. Su Yiyi, General Manager of CATL Electric Boats Technology Co., Ltd., said in an interview that at the current stage, CATL's marine business is widely used in various water areas such as rivers, lakes, and seas, and is currently working to expand the application scenarios to the open ocean. "In the not too distant future, perhaps in about three years, we will be able to achieve pure electric ships sailing to the open ocean," Su Yiyi said. Established in November 2022, CATL Electric Boats, relying on its parent company CATL's experience in power battery technology, is committed to providing power solutions for the water transportation system. Interface News learned at the media communication meeting that as of now, CATL has provided power solutions for nearly 900 various types of vessels, with a global market share in this field of approximately 40%.
