The Malaysian national electricity company lost over 1 billion dollars in electricity theft due to cryptocurrency mining.

The Malaysian Ministry of Energy has stated that between 2020 and August this year, the country's state-owned utility company Tenaga Nasional Berhad has lost over $1 billion due to illegal electricity usage by cryptocurrency miners. The Ministry of Energy and Water Transformation in Malaysia revealed in a written parliamentary response on Tuesday that Tenaga Nasional Berhad discovered a total of 13,827 locations engaging in cryptocurrency mining through unauthorized electricity consumption during this period.
