On the 18th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a routine press conference. A reporter from Xinhua News Agency asked about the 4th China-Germany High-Level Financial and Economic Dialogue held in Beijing yesterday, co-chaired by German Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. Vice Chancellor Scholz afterwards stated that they also discussed the Taiwan issue. He expressed concern about any military escalation in the Taiwan Strait. The reporter asked for the Foreign Ministry's comment on this. Furthermore, the reporter inquired about the positions China and Germany take on the Taiwan issue during dialogues. Mao Ning responded, "Regarding the Taiwan issue, I can tell you that it is an internal affair of China. How to solve the Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese people themselves and should not allow any external forces to interfere. Maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is crucially about adhering to the One-China principle and firmly opposing Taiwan independence."
