Swiss National Bank: UBS's acquisition of Credit Suisse raises financing costs for the banking industry.
The Swiss National Bank said on Thursday that the cost for Swiss banks to obtain liquidity in the financial markets has increased compared to two years ago, and pointed out that the 2023 Swiss Credit Bankruptcy and acquisition by competitor UBS are one of the reasons. Petra Kuhn, a member of the Swiss National Bank's management committee, said at an event in Geneva that from mid-2023 to the end of 2024, the cost of bank bond and money market financing has significantly increased. She added that although these costs have slightly decreased recently, they are still high, which may affect the pricing and issuance of loans.
