According to the new directive issued by the Trump administration, foreign citizens with health issues such as diabetes or obesity may be denied a visa to live in the United States. According to the "Kaiser Family Foundation Health News," the U.S. Department of State is requiring consular officers to assess the financial burden that applicants may pose to the American public healthcare system when reviewing visa applications. The directive states that treating these individuals may require the government to incur significant costs and deplete U.S. resources. Additionally, the Department of State is encouraging visa officers to consider other health factors, including but not limited to cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, cancer, diabetes, metabolic diseases, neurological diseases, and mental health issues.
