BBC executives resign over splicing Trump video

On the afternoon of November 9th local time, today Beijing time, Tim Davie, President of the British Broadcasting Corporation, and Deborah Turness, Chief Executive of the News Department, resigned. The trigger was external criticism of the BBC documentary "Panorama" for misleading viewers by editing a speech by US President Trump. Tim Davie said after resigning, "Overall, the BBC is running well, but there have been some mistakes, and as Director-General, I must take ultimate responsibility." The UK's Daily Telegraph recently exposed an internal BBC memorandum that revealed the BBC allegedly spliced a video of Trump's speech on January 6, 2021, to make it appear as if he was inciting the Capitol Hill riots that day. The 19-page memorandum, written by former BBC Standards Committee advisor Michael Prescot, specifically cited a video aired on the "Panorama" program the week before the US election last year. The video was edited based on Trump's speech on January 6, 2021. The memorandum pointed out that the BBC's editing "created a false impression, leading viewers to believe that Trump was saying things he actually did not say, which constitutes serious misrepresentation."
