On November 7, the Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) and the United Parcel Service (UPS) announced that they would accept Boeing's recommendation to ground all of their McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter planes. This decision came after a UPS MD-11 freighter plane crashed on November 4, resulting in the death of 14 people. As the world's two largest cargo airline companies, FedEx and UPS own 28 and 27 MD-11 freighter planes respectively, accounting for 4% and 9% of their total cargo plane fleets.
