The Australian federal government announced on Tuesday that it would introduce laws requiring streaming platforms to invest a certain amount of funding in local content. Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, and Minister for Communications, Annika Wells, stated in a joint declaration that the center-left Labor government would require streaming platforms to invest at least 10% of their total expenditures or 7.5% of their revenue in new Australian drama, children's content, documentaries, as well as arts and educational programs.
