Amazon (AMZN.O) accuses a utility company owned by Berkshire Hathaway in Oregon of failing to provide sufficient power for four new data center projects, highlighting the pressure that the rapid expansion of technology facilities is putting on the power grid. Amazon filed a complaint last week with the Oregon Public Utility Commission alleging that PacifiCorp, headquartered in Portland, violated its contractual obligations to provide adequate power for these projects starting in 2021. Amazon stated that the company provided insufficient power for one of the data centers, did not power the second center, and "even refused to complete its own standard contract processes for the third and fourth data center parks." Amazon's data centers are used for cloud computing, mobile applications, and streaming services.
