China Charging Alliance: In February, the number of public charging piles increased by 44,000 compared to January, a year-on-year growth of 51.2%.

On March 11th, the China Charging Alliance released the operation status of national electric vehicle charging and swapping infrastructure in February 2024. Specifically, in terms of public charging infrastructure operation, there was an increase of 44,000 public charging stations in February 2024 compared to January 2024, a year-on-year increase of 51.2%. As of February 2024, a total of 2.826 million public charging stations were reported by member units of the alliance, including 1.239 million DC charging stations and 1.586 million AC charging stations. From March 2023 to February 2024, an average of around 80,000 public charging stations were added per month.
In terms of the operation of public charging infrastructure in provinces, regions, and cities, the top 10 areas with public charging stations constructed include Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hubei, Shandong, Beijing, Anhui, Henan, and Sichuan, accounting for 70.7% of the total. The majority of national charging electricity is concentrated in provinces such as Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian, Shaanxi, and Henan, with the electricity mainly used for buses and passenger vehicles, while sanitation logistics vehicles, taxis, and other vehicle types account for a smaller proportion. In February 2024, the total nationwide charging electricity was approximately 3.64 billion kWh, a decrease of 580 million kWh compared to the previous month, with a year-on-year increase of 43.4% and a decrease of 13.7% month-on-month.
In terms of the operation of public charging infrastructure by operators, as of February 2024, the top 15 national charging operators in terms of the number of charging stations operated are: TELD with 544,000 stations, Star Charge with 477,000 stations, Quick Charge Cloud with 476,000 stations, State Grid with 196,000 stations, Wejoy Cloud with 149,000 stations, Dake Cloud with 138,000 stations, Xiaojue Charging with 131,000 stations, Southern Power Grid with 90,000 stations, Shenzhen Car Power Grid with 84,000 stations, Yiwu Energy with 75,000 stations, Huichongdian with 72,000 stations, Wancheng Wanchong with 53,000 stations, Weilan Quick Charge with 49,000 stations, Wanma Aichong with 33,000 stations, China Putian with 30,000 stations. These 15 operators account for 91.9% of the total, while the remaining operators account for 8.1%.
In terms of the overall operation of charging infrastructure, from January to February 2024, there was an increase of 530,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 6.17%. The increase in public charging stations was 156,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 5.72%, while the increase in privately-owned charging stations was 416,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 7.09%. As of February 2024, the total number of charging infrastructure nationwide was 9.023 million units, an increase of 63.7% year-on-year.
In comparison with electric vehicles, from January to February 2024, the increase in charging infrastructure was 530,000 units, while the domestic sales of new energy vehicles were 1.025 million units, indicating a continued rapid growth in both charging infrastructure and new energy vehicles. The ratio of the increase in infrastructure to the increase in vehicles was 1:1.9, indicating that the construction of charging infrastructure is able to largely meet the rapid development of new energy vehicles.
